Chronicle of Overschild. A future without a past - Martin Hillenga and Gus Drake Until recently, Groningen Overschild was a village like many in the Netherlands. The history could be read in a mixture of farms, stately civilian homes, small workers' houses, a handful of reconstruction homes and comfortable new buildings from the years of the post-war welfare state. As a reminder of a pillarized society, the roof tiles of two churches pierced the sky. All this of course – 'typically Dutch' – surrounded by green meadows, a water-rich environment and, above all, rust.
